General info:

 

What are they:

The spotted cloud-tails are a fairy-like species with the sole purpose of protecting Mother Nature and the animals in it. They can either be referred to by their full names, or just simply ‘Cloud tails’.

 

Do they have different abilities?

The cloud-tails have a variety of different abilities, as they are split up into different categories.

 

What are these different categories you speak of?

 

• Baby Cloud-Tails :  Baby cloud tails have very limited abilities as they are very small and fragile, however they are not helpless. A baby cloud-tail can fend for its own before it even completes its first year in existence.

The babies can emit tiny spores from their sweat that helps fertilize plants and their spit has lots of healing proprieties. They tend to pick up a munching habit in the first months after they are born.

 

• Teen Cloud-Tails : They are much more playful and energetic and their ‘braid’ antenna always them the ability to talk to animals. They can levitate and the spores from their tails are even stronger as they can restore life to infertile soil and heal sick animals.

 

• Adult Cloud-Tails : The level of healing their spores produce is great. They can restore entire fields at a time, revive burnt greenery, clean polluted waters and clean polluted airs. Their ears are very large enabling them to hear to thousands of miles away. They also produce a sound that can only sensed by beings that have heightened hearing (mainly animals). This sound has a calming effect, allowing unrest to be peaceful once more. They also grow a second ‘braid’ antenna.

 

Characteristics?

  They all have blue eyes with flower-like pupils.

Each age group has their own distinctions. 

• Baby Cloud-tails hardly have any spots on their ears or tail (if any) at all and their ears are rather tiny. However their tails are thick and powerful. They use them sometimes to hang from trees as they eat fruit. Their hair is also very short and puffed-up and soft like clouds, with a small braid that works as a sort of antenna.

 

• Teen Cloud-tails’ tails are much longer and less thick, while their ears grow to an extensive length. This allows them to have enhanced hearing abilities. Their hair also grows out and their braids grow a lot longer allowing them to develop a somewhat telepathic response to other Cloud-tails.

 

• Adult Cloud-tails are the more powerful of all the cloud tails and the only ones who can reproduce
• Some of the oldest even grow and additional pair of ears. The puffs at the end of their tails grow larger and the females develop little pearls at the base of the puff. The number of pearls she has, determines the number of times she can procreate. 
  
• Pre-adults can mate as well, but only if the female develops her mating pearls. 

 

I heard you mention Baby cloud tails…..well how are they born?

A baby is born after a male and female cloud-tail performs a ‘Spore ritual’.

The male and female intertwine their tails together as microscopic spores resonated from the tips.

The spores then fuse together to create an egg and after a period of time the egg hatches.



What happens to the reproductive pearl on the female's tail after she's made an egg with her partner?

The mother's pearl contains a special liquid for child bearing. During the Spore Ritual , one of her pearls glows and all the spores are released from it to help for the egg. 
After these spores are released, the pearl looses its colour.

 

How long does it take an egg to hatch?

Well that’s the very special thing about Cloud-tail eggs, there is no specific time-span for an egg to hatch. Some hatch right after the fusion and some take weeks, or even months. The most essential thing for making the egg hatch successfully is, they have to be surrounded by fresh, clean, greenery. That’s why the parents make it their duty to find the most beautiful and rich lands to make their eggs.

The eggs feed off the molecular atoms of only the finest and healthiest of Mother Nature’s lands.

This can also be a negative thing as well. For if the lands aren’t fertile and healthy, but rundown and damaged, then the Cloud-tails will be unable to reproduce and may run the risk of going extinct. That is also why they try soo hard to protect, care for and restore the environments, for the benefit of all living things.

 

How do you know when an egg is about to hatch?

When an egg is made, it has a tiny pearl at the top. When it’s ready to hatch it glows a bright pink as large spores emit from it, causing a bed of flowers to spring from wherever the spores land on. The baby then appears.

It's parents then makes a little headband made from the flowers and places it on the baby's head. The flowers contain sustenance that help the baby grow faster.



What do the parents do until the egg's been hatched?

After they have created their egg, the parents hide it in bushes and set various traps to protect it from danger.
They then fly off to finish their duties. They return to it's side when it's about to hatch. Their antenna twitches uncontrollably when the egg is about to hatch and they both return to be by its side for that moment.



How do cloud tails defend themselves if attacked?

They can produce special spores that either paralyze or poison their enemies. This gives them enough time to flee.
They aren't really the fighting types and avoid having to engage most of the time




What happens to a baby if one or both parents were to die from unnatural reasons(say an accident or a natural disaster)? 

Since the Cloud Tails gather around their kind, if the parents died other cloud tails would look after the baby till its matured enough to be independent.

If one parent dies, then the other would look after the baby alone. However, other females/males might help if the work is too much for one parent.




What is the growth length of a cloud tail, from baby to full grown adult?

As mentioned before the Cloud tails go through different stages in their lives. The egg, baby, teen, pre-adult and adult.
Each stage has a different time length of growth. The egg has already been mentioned.

Baby cloud tails:

• This stage has the fastest growth spurt of them all, for it only takes about 2 years to reach teen stage. They eat uncontrollably through this stage and the more they consume, the faster they grow. The earliest for a baby to reach teen stage is around a year and a half.
  

Teen Cloud Tails:

• This stage lasts abit longer. Extending to over 40 years before reaching their pre-adult stage. They consume alot less than their previous stage. Gaining the ability to levitate, they fly around in bundles playing and interacting with each other through their new grown antenna. 
  

Pre-Adult Cloud Tails:

• Cloud Tails reach this stage 50 years after their teen stage. Around this stage the females develop their mating pearls and get very close to the opposite gender. The males also start seeking out a mate.
  

Although many males may try to claim a female ( especially the more fertile ones ), a female will only choose a male with a distinct matching body odor they will both develop after time.
If either is injured and dies before they find each other, then that adult will stay single and refuse to mate unless some other Cloud Tail develops a similar scent. 

Some males may cheat the process by masking their scent with the female's preferred male by either rubbing himself on the male and partially stealing his scent. If multiple males do this the female may become confused. XD

If the female is extremely fertile, multiple other males might try to fight the chosen male and completely steal his scent.

A female will become in-heat every 5-10 years.


Fully-grown Adult Cloud Tail:
A Cloud Tail will reach full adulthood after living more the 200 years. They sprout extra ears and grow an additional antenna. Around this stage they usually hang out in pairs and fly around spreading their pores wherever needed.



 
Where would you be able to find cloudtails?

They dont like cold climates very much. So mainly grasslands , forests and definitely areas where lands are healthy





Are there any rare breeds of cloud tails?

Yes in fact, and they're called Royal Cloud tails.
A cloudtail reachs a fully grown adult around 200 years. In that time span, depending on how many lands they have restored, a chemical reaction takes part in the body causing their spores to change. These new spores produce a sort of powerful pheromone that makes them irresistible to all other cloudtails and it enhances they healing abilities . When this happens the other cloudtails will crown them a royal cause they will be deemed special and other cloud tails will do anything they can to protect them.




Is there anything else special about the Royals?
There is actually. A major difference at that.
royals can disperse a huge amount of spores and concentrate them into one huge energy source. They then store this energy source into a handmade staff.

They will keep it with them, either holding it or strapping it unto their backs, and use it to help them distribute their nature-healing spores on a much larger scale than they could have on their own.

Creating their staff usually takes about a month, in order for it to be stable enough to handle the concentrated energy and it can only be wielded by a Royal (other cloudtails are too weak to handle the energy) . 

Staffs are usually half the size of the Royals, but they can be bigger depending on how they want to make them.

After dispersing their massive amounts of spores as mentioned before, they are completely drained of all energy and need to rest in between 1-2 weeks to regain their strength. During that time, they would usually be protected/aided by other cloudtails.


Can Royals use each other's staffs?

The staffs are made specifically for the Royal making it. If another Royal came and wanted to use the staff or trade staffs , it would be possible. However, it would take the new owner sometime to get used to the staff and they'd have to learn how to control it properly, since it wouldn't have their energy in it.


Is there a height chart for cloudtails? 

Since they are fairly short in their adult stages as is :
Royals - 3 ft
Adults - 2.5ft
Teens- 2 ft
Babies - 1/2 ft
Eggs - 5 inches tall, 4 inches wide


They can also use their spores to project illusions to make themselves seem taller if they encounter a human.






Aside from fruits what else do cloud tails eat or don't eat?

They love nuts and berries.
But they're vegetarians period. They can eat grass and flowers too, but berries and fruits are more energizing to them. They'd munch on mushrooms if no other food is available to them.

They would be able to stomach sweets such as chocolate and ice-cream as well if introduced to them. But they'd only eat small amounts as to not make themselves sick.



What else do cloud tails do in their free time? Do they have any particular hobbies?

Mostly just play with their kind, insects or animals.




What languages do they speak? Can they speak human languages? And is there a native language that only cloud tails can speak?

They have their own language, but they can use their antennas to talk to animals, and they can use them to understand humans as well.

They are also able to use sign language as a form of communicating with humans. ( Although they try to avoid them as much as possible )




Are Cloud Tails immortal?

Although the life span is rather long , unfortunately they too eventually die, like all living things. 
The oldest Cloud Tails live up to 400 years.

When they sense their approaching death, they seek out very poor lands ( kinda the opposite of what parents do when making an egg ). They seek out the worst, most infertile, dried-up lands they can find.
They then dig a hole and bury themselves in it. Their bodies disintegrate into millions of spores that fertilize the entire area and surrounding lands; restoring life and any damage it may have previously had.

Their death is somewhat of a final service/ love letter to mother nature
